Calli Carvajal

Calli Carvajal is a professional wig designer, hair stylist, and makeup artist whose career

spans more than two decades in the beauty and performing arts industries. A graduate of the

Aveda Institute in New York City, Calli began her journey in some of Manhattan’s most

prestigious salons before bringing her artistry to the stage.

She currently serves as Principal Hair, Wig, and Makeup Artist with the San Francisco

Opera, where her expertise shapes the visual storytelling of world-class productions. In

addition, she is a frequent collaborator with the San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program,

creating signature wigs, headpieces, and character-defining looks for the Schwabacher

Summer Concert and the Merola Grand Finale.

Her large and over-the-top wig and headpiece designs have graced productions across the

Bay Area and beyond, including Panto in the Presidio, Magic Lamp, Sleeping Beauty,

Peter Pan, and as Wig and Makeup Designer for Opera San Jose’s 2024 production of The

Magic Flute.

Calli’s work bridges vintage inspiration with modern precision, resulting in looks that are both

timeless and theatrical. She has also styled for celebrities, fashion magazines, and

regional theaters, bringing the same level of creativity and detail to every collaboration.

Beyond her stage work, Calli is passionate about education and is developing custom

classes and resources to mentor the next generation of artists in wig design and theatrical

makeup.
